Quartz Regulations

General: The Baldy Point area is open free to the public year round during daylight hours (dawn to dusk).

Parking: Visitors are required to park their vehicles in the parking lot located on the southwest side of Baldy Point. The parking lot is accessed from the west via a county dirt road.

Allowed Uses: Rock Climbing, Hiking, Nature Observation and Photography, and Environmental Education and Interpretation.

Prohibited Uses: Camping, Mountain Biking, Hunting, Firearms (including Paintball Guns), and Fires.

Rock Climbing : Technical Climbing, including Bouldering and Rappelling, are available to visitors at their own risk.

Fixed Anchors: Maintenance of existing and new fixed anchors at Quartz is subject to the explicit approval of the WMCC Advisory Bolting Committee (abc.wmcc@gmail.com)

Obtain proper training and guidance before climbing.

YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY.

Rock Climbing and associated activities (such as Rappelling) are inherently dangerous.

SUBSTANTIAL RISK OF INJURY AND DEATH EXIST!

Permission to climb at Baldy Point is premised upon your assumption of all risk of injury to person and property. Climbing risks include, but are not limited to: falling; collisions with both manmade and natural objects; falling rocks and other debris; failure of equipment or anchors; adverse weather; human error; slippery surfaces; and the negligence of other users.

Quartz Mountain Nature Park (QMNP), Wichita Mountains Climbers Coalition (WMCC), and the WMCC’s Advisory Bolting Committee (ABC) do not manage or regulate the placement, replacement or removal of fixed anchors at Baldy Point (Quartz). QMNP, WMCC, and ABC make no representations or warranties regarding the safety, reliability or suitability for use of any fixed anchors or other hardware, currently existing or installed in the future, on any climbing route at Baldy Point. Moreover, QMNP, WMCC, and ABC make no representations or warranties regarding the degree of hazard or danger involved, or lack thereof, on any rock climbing route at Baldy Point. Rock climbing is a dangerous activity and the individual climber must personally make all decisions regarding his or her own safety while climbing.
